Russian delegation goes to Jerusalem to bring back Holy Fire

MOSCOW, April 29 (Itar-Tass) - A Russian delegation went to Jerusalem on Friday to bring back the Holy Fire from the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. The Holy Fire will be brought to the Moscow Cathedral of the Redeemed by air on Sunday, April 30, on the eve of Easter Day, in time for the Easter Service, which Patriarch of Moscow and All of Russia Alexei the Second will administer, Itar-Tass was told on Friday at the St. Andrew the First-Called Apostle Foundation, which had initiated the action.

The miraculous appearance of the Holy Fire at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem will be directly transmitted for the first-ever time on April 30 by the state television channels and broadcasting stations of five states – Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Georgia, Serbia and Montenegro. The Russian NTV channel and the “Radio Russia” broadcasting service are to highlight the event.

The Holy Fire has been annually appearing on Easter Saturday for almost two thousand years running. Scores of thousands of believers from all over the world will come to Jerusalem to witness the miracle.

The Russian delegation includes Minister of Culture and Mass Communications Alexander Sokolov, Secretary of the General Council of the United Russia Party Valery Bogomolov, Chairman of the Duma Committee on the Affairs of Public Associations and Religious Organisations Sergei Popov, Krasnogorsk Bishop Savva of the Moscow Patriarchy, and Boston Bishop Mikhail of the Russian Oversea Church.
